R410A Phase-Out: What You Need to Know
Under the EPA AIM Act, new residential and light commercial HVAC equipment manufactured after January 1, 2025 must use refrigerants with a GWP below 700. R410A (GWP 2,088) no longer meets this threshold. However, R410A equipment continues to be sold for replacement purposes on existing systems and remains legal to use, service, and recharge.

Is R410A being discontinued?
R410A is being phased out of new equipment manufacturing under the EPA AIM Act as of January 1, 2025. It remains legal to purchase, use, and service existing R410A systems. Replacement R410A refrigerant is not banned — only its use in newly manufactured residential equipment is restricted.
What replaces R410A?
R454B (branded as Puron Advance by Carrier) and R32 are the primary replacements for R410A in residential systems. Both have significantly lower global warming potential. See our R454B guide for a full comparison.
