Description
Combination Y-Strainer Ball Valve — HCi TY-BFF-Q 3/4″
The HCi TY-BFF-Q is a 3/4″ FNPT combination Y-strainer ball valve that combines a Y-strainer, an isolation ball valve and a union in one brass body. It protects the coil, control valve and heat exchanger of a water source heat pump or fan coil from pipe debris while giving the technician a shutoff and a service union in a single fitting.

Product details
- Part number: TY-BFF-Q
- Brand: HCi (Hydronic Components Inc.), Terminator Y series
- Size: 3/4″ FNPT
- Functions: Y-strainer, isolation ball valve and union
Why use a combination Y-strainer ball valve
Debris from new piping and loop flushing is the most common cause of plugged heat pump coaxial coils and stuck control valves. Installing a combination Y-strainer ball valve on the supply side catches that debris before it reaches the unit, and the integrated ball valve lets the screen be cleaned without draining the riser. One combination fitting also takes less space and fewer threaded joints than three separate parts.

How to install and service
- Install on the supply side with the flow arrow toward the unit and the strainer leg pointing down.
- Connect the union side to the unit or flexible hose.
- After flushing, close the ball valve, remove the strainer cap and clean the screen.
- Reinstall the screen, open the valve slowly and check for leaks.
Screen mesh, pressure rating and dimensions are on the HCi (Hydronic Components Inc.) product site.
